Wastewater Treatment Facility

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The City of Yachats owns and operates a wastewater treatment plant located at 500 W 7th Street. The plant is designed to treat 330,000 gallons of wastewater per day in dry weather flows. The plant can handle up to 1.96 million gallons per day during wet weather.

The facility was upgraded in 2009 to a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR). The facility was recently upgraded to a Class III treatment system to reflect the effectiveness and complexity of the treatment process.

Treatment Process

Effluent is treated and passed through an Ultra Violet disinfection process before being discharged into the Pacific Ocean.

Biosolids are processed on-site into cakes and sent to another biosolids treatment facility or landfill. Depending on regulations, biosolids are occasionally land applied as fertilizer.

Collection System

The City also owns and maintains approximately 65,000 feet of main sewer pipe ranging from 6 to12 inches in diameter, five pump stations and approximately 268 manholes.
