Road Improvements on W 1st and E 2nd Streets

Yachats Street Exhibit W. 1st St.

Street Construction News

Work from 8/5/19 to 10/11/19

W 1st Street

8/5/19 to 9/3/19

The gravel portion of W 1st Sreet will be getting paved down to where it intersects with Pontiac Street. As a lot of storm water originates in the State Park and flows down W 1st  Street, a storm drain system will be  installed to handle all the water in this area.

E 2nd Street

9/3/19 to 10/11/19

Yachats Street Exhibit E. 2nd St.

This paving project starts at the intersection of E 2nd  Street and Hwy 101 and extends up to the intersection of Prospect Street. In addition, a storm drain system will be installed to handle all the water in this area.  Local residents are well-aware of  how storm water accumulates on this street causes possible instability of the south side of the street where the steep embankments and retaining wall are located.  The new drainage system should direct all the storm water flow into the City's storm drain system.

Some of you may remember that we really hoped there would be enough money in the Highway 101 Project to upgrade this portion of E 2nd  Street.  While those funds did not pan out, Public Works was able to secure a $100,000 grant from ODOT to complete this goal.

Traffic Plan

Safety is our primary goal.  Our plan for both pedestrians and vehicles  is to:

  • Place plenty of  temporary signage in the area to direct traffic.
  • Allow residents living on E 2nd  Street east of Prospect Street  to continue to come and go using the side streets that intersect with Yachats River Road.
  • Place temporary restrictions on parking in the project area during construction work hours (this restriction will allow contractors to complete the work more quickly). The area will be open to thru traffic in the evenings.
