April 29 - Message on Community Support

Hello Yachats!

On April 1, 2020 the City adopted the local Business and Community Support Measure to encourage the support of our businesses and citizens impacted by this public health crisis.  We encouraged you to submit your receipts of at least $25.00 from a licensed local Yachats business establishment from April 1-30, 2020 and the City would make a donation, matching up to $5,000 total, to the Displaced Worker Relief Fund or Food Pantry currently being managed by the Yachats Presbyterian Church.

I am thrilled to announce that as of April 28, we have received $21,290.82 in receipts, $2,625 of that amount was donated directly to the Displaced Worker Relief Fund or Food Pantry.

With the addition of the City’s $5,000, over $7,500 has gone directly to our citizens impacted by this pandemic and over $18,600 directly to supporting our businesses!

And that’s just the receipts we have received, and we still have a couple of more days in April!!!

Furthermore, last Thursday, the City Council approved $100,000 for an emergency loan program for our local businesses who have suffered losses due to COVID-19.  We are using a non-profit organization, Community Lending, to administer the funds and handle all of the applications and approvals. The process is straight forward and the loans are available to any store-front business in Yachats with a current Yachats business license.  Applications can be accepted immediately.

Additionally, we are working with Community Lending to determine if there are any matching options by the state and federal small business assistance programs to add to the available funds for our businesses.

We still have a long road ahead of us and we know our citizens and businesses will continue to need help when we are ready to safely and gradually reopen.

If you are able, we encourage you to continue to support our community in the following ways:

  • Donate to the Small Business Grant Relief, Food Pantry, and/or Displaced Worker Relief Funds managed by the Yachats Presbyterian Church,
  • Donate to the City’s Small Business Loan Program.  Funds will be added to the $100,000 initially contributed by the City and help sustain the program for more businesses and for a longer length of time.

Thank you Yachats.  The strength and compassion of our community is amazing!

Shannon Beaucaire,

City Manager
